What is a private homeschool?

A private homeschool is a home-based educational program that operates as a private school. In a traditional setting, the parents take on the role of administrators and teachers. At Home Sweet Home Academy, we will be managing curriculum, instruction, and record-keeping on behalf of the parents. |

Is your homeschool registered as a private school? |
A: |
Yes. We file an annual Private School Affidavit (PSA) with the California Department of Education to legally operate as a private school. |

What grades do you offer? |

We currently offer instruction for grades TK to 8th grade, based on each child’s age and developmental readiness. |

What curriculum do you use? |

We use a blend of Abeka, Saxon Math, and The Good and the Beautiful, tailored to each student’s needs. Our approach combines classical education, hands-on learning, and student interests. |

Are your students required to take standardized tests? |

Standardized testing is not required for private schools in California, but we may choose to administer tests periodically to track progress. |

How is attendance tracked? |

We keep daily attendance records as required by law. Families are expected to complete 175–180 instructional days per school year. |

We use a combination of assessments, projects, portfolios, and parent observation to evaluate student growth. Progress reports are issued quarterly. |

Can students participate in extracurriculars or field trips? |

Yes! We offer many field trips and volunteer programs throught the year, and encourage participation in community events and learning opportunities. |
